This Place

This place where nothing is taken for granted
and no one feels entitled to comfort and ease;

This place which inspires righteous poets
but where much of the populace can’t read;

This place written off as both dying and deadly
that so many devotees fervently hold dear;

This place where too few expect to find beauty
but the clear-eyed so gratefully do;

This place which regularly declares to the world
that there’s no place quite like this place.
